Album Of The Week: Jones Girls - 'At Peace With Woman' (1980)
Valerie, Shirley, and Brenda Jones spent more than 10 years in the music business before they tasted success of their own. During that time, however, their voices graced the records and stage performances of dozens of established stars, including Diana Ross and Betty Everett.
'At Peace With Woman' was their second album for Philadelphia International and boasts some of the sisters' best work. The playful "I Just Love the Man" and the perky "Dance Turned Into a Romance," both written by Gamble & Huff, were major hits -- and the Jones Girls are equally impressive on album tracks that range from the nostalgic "Back in the Day" to an inspired cover of the Stylistics' "Children of the Night."
At Peace With Woman is among the Jones Girls' most essential albums.
1. Children Of The Night
2. Let's Celebrate (Sittin' On Top Of The World)
3. Dance Turned Into A Romance
4. I Close My Eyes
5. At Peace With Woman
6. When I'm Gone
7. I Just Love The Man
8. Back In The Day.
