Episode 3
Penny Gore presents a concert by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Weber: Quintet in B flat, Op 34. Mendelssohn: String Quintet No 1 in A, Op 18.
Penny Gore presents part of a series of concerts in which the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment perform some of Mendelssohn's best-loved chamber music for wind and strings at St George's, Bristol, as part of 成人快手 Radio 3's Mendelssohn anniversary celebrations.
The programme features Weber's Quintet in B flat which, according to OAE principal clarinettist Antony Pay, was the piece Brahms chose to hear in preference to his own rather darker quintet when he was ill and needed cheering up. Plus Mendelssohn's Quintet for strings, written just a year after the Octet, when the composer was just 17.
Antony Pay (clarinet)
Kati Debretzeni, Cathy Weiss (violins)
