Claire Martin presents the latest mix of jazz releases, plus an interview and concert set by composer and arranger Vince Mendoza with the WDR Big Band. The programme features repertoire from his album Blauklang, nominated at the 51st Grammy awards for best large jazz ensemble album. Vince has previously been nominated 16 times and has won four, his most recent being for his work on the Joe Zawinul Brown Street album.
The concert was recorded at the Funkhaus in Cologne in November 2008 and features Mendoza's arrangements of Miles Davis' tune All Blues, Gil Evans' Blues For Pablo as well as his own compositions working with the WDR Big Band - The Bluesound Suite, Lo Rossinyol, Habanera and Ollie Mention.
