From St Paul's Church, Knightsbridge, London, the 成人快手 Singers perform Dupre's Laudate Dominum, Poulenc's Litanies a la vierge noire and Bingham's Irish Tenebrae.
From St Paul's Church, Knightsbridge, London, Petroc Trelawny presents the 成人快手 Singers under David Hill performing music drawn from the penitential rites of the Catholic church.
The concert opens with Marcel Dupre's Laudate Dominum, this key 20th-century French organ composer's setting of words from the psalms. It is followed by Poulenc's Litanies, which were inspired by the Black Virgin of Rocamadour, a miracle-working image frequently worshipped and venerated by kings, cardinals, knights and millions of pilgrims on its hilltop site.
Judith Bingham's Irish Tenebrae, dating from 1990, takes words from the liturgy for Maundy Thursday and juxtaposes them with Irish folksong and poetry to create an emotional piece exploring some of the complicated themes of 20th-century Irish history.
