Is the Hadron Collider experiment worth the cost?

Graham Stewart takes your calls on the giant particle accelerator which is swtiched on this morning. Plus, do we do enough to remember those who served in Northern Ireland?

A giant particle accelerator has been switched on beneath the French-Swiss border which it's hoped may unlock the secrets of the Big Bang. But is the Large Hadron Collider worth the 拢5bn cost? Is it really crucial that we find out as much as we can about the origins of our universe, or would all this money and scientific brainpower be better spent solving issues closer to home, such as global warming?

Plus: Do we do enough to remember those who served in Northern Ireland?

A special service will be held today to mark the end of Britain's longest ever military deployment. Veterans of the Northern Ireland conflict will gather at St Paul's Cathedral in London to remember colleagues who were killed and injured in Operation Banner. Over the 38 years of the conflict more than 300,000 personnel served in the province - 763 were killed by paramilitaries. Do those who served in Northern Ireland get enough help and support once they leave the forces? We hear a lot about the veterans of the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan, but what about Northern Ireland?

Graham Stewart takes your calls, texts and emails.
