The Investigation - Mother Tongue
Ken Macdonald asks whether the education of Scottish school children is suffering due to increasing numbers of pupils who can't speak English. Graham Stewart takes your calls.
The number of children with little or no English coming into Scotland's schools every year is rising. At last count there were 138 different languages spoken by over 15,000 pupils all needing extra help with their English. The government encouraged migrant workers to re-locate to Scotland but, according to Scotland's teachers who're feeling the strain of this increasing demand, they haven't backed that up with extra money and resources are being stretched to their limit. Our reporter Ken MacDonald takes his seat at the back of the class to examine claims that the influx of non English speakers is harming the education of thousands of Scottish schoolchildren.
Graham Stewart takes your calls, texts and emails.
