From the Royal Albert Hall, the National Youth Orchestra under Antonio Pappano in Varese's Ameriques and, with Boris Berezovsky (piano), Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 4.

From the Royal Albert Hall, London. Presented by Penny Gore.

The young star players of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain are conducted by the youngest man ever to be appointed musical director of the Royal Opera Antonio Pappano. The programme has an American theme and is launched by Frenchman Edgard Varese's hymn to the New World where he went to live. This is followed by the last numbered piano concerto - composed mainly in New York - by Rachmaninov, a more reluctant US resident, who was self-exiled from Soviet Russia.
