Jez Nelson presents a gig by jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, with a new quintet, recorded at the 2008 Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Famed for work that blends blues and country influences with jazz harmonies and electronics, Frisell is joined in the line-up by reedsman Chris Cheek and cornettist Ron Miles, with Larry Grenadier on bass and Rudy Royston on drums.
Awarded the 'Best Contemporary Jazz Album' Grammy award in 2005 for his disc Unspeakable, Frisell was for a time associated with the German ECM label, where he made several recordings as in-house guitarist before leading his own group for the first time in 1982. Since then he has played with many of the music's leading names, including Jim Hall, Paul Motian, Joe Lovano and Ron Carter.
