Singer Mica Paris explores the legacy of African-American spirituals such as Deep River, Steal Away, and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. Born out of the bitter experience of slavery, these songs have given voice to suffering, faith and hope - and continue to inspire people today. Mica talks to the Rev. Rose Hudson-Wilkin and Ken Burton about their lasting appeal, and sings her own version of Wade in the Water. Other classic spirituals are performed by Sir Willard White and the Adventist Vocal Ensemble.
