Why are we doing this and how can you participate?

The International Audio Drama Competition - from the 成人快手 World Service and British Council is an opportunity for writers from outside the UK to tell their stories. The competition launches in 2025 and the winners are announced in 2026.

To take part, please send us your entry on any subject of your choice. You can submit your entry using our online platform, via email or post. The entry should include the online form and:

• A 40-50 minute audio drama script with up to six (6) central characters
• A synopsis (this outlines the complete story of the drama and should be no more than 400 words)

There are two (2) categories for entry. One is for entrants who speak English as a first language, and the other is for entrants with English as a second language. The drama must be written substantially or entirely in English.

Entrants can enter individually or as part of a group. If entering as a group, all entrants must meet the entry requirements and be eligible for the same category. You must also have their permission to enter.

A shortlist of up to twenty (20) scripts will be sent to a panel of 6 judges. From these scripts, two dramas (from either category) will be chosen as winners.

Winners will receive a cash prize, be invited to attend an award ceremony in the UK in 2026, and to participate in the recording of their dramas for a world premiere on 成人快手 World Service platforms.

There will also be one (1) runner-up who will receive the Georgi Markov award.

We may also select regional winners and commended writers who will receive recognition in name only.

If you are a winner, runner up, regional winner or a commended writer, we may publish your name or pseudonym for promotional purposes on the 成人快手’s social media sites.
If we broadcast your contribution on-air, this may include the programme being available online and/or on demand, and your contribution may be used again in a future broadcast.

What personal data will the 成人快手 collect and how will we use it?

The 成人快手 will collect and process the personal data for the purposes of administering the competition. If you are a winner, we will also use your personal data to contact you about your entry, invite you to the event, facilitate payment and book your trip.

You will be given the option to opt-in to receiving emails about future 成人快手 International Audio Drama Competitions.

Personal data

You must be 18 years or older and a non-UK resident to take part.
The 成人快手 will collect and process the following personal data about you:
• Full name
• Pseudonym (if applicable)
• Address
• Country
• Telephone numbers
• Email address

We will also process the title of your drama, and if English is your first language.

We will also ask you to tell us a little bit about yourself and what drew you to write this drama, in two hundred (200) words or fewer.

If applicable, we will also process personal data about the translator. Please make sure that you have their permission before providing their contact details.

We will process bank details and passport details of the winners to facilitate the payment and book your trip.

Background checks

The 成人快手 will carry out social media checks on those who are shortlisted, to check for any content that does not align with the 成人快手’s values.

Who is the Data Controller?

The 成人快手 is the “data controller” of your personal data. This means that the 成人快手 decides what your personal data is used for, and the ways in which it is processed. For the avoidance of doubt, your personal data will be collected and processed solely for the purposes set out in this privacy notice. As the data controller, the 成人快手 has the responsibility to comply, and to demonstrate compliance with, data protection law.

Lawful basis for processing your personal data

The lawful basis on which the 成人快手 processes the personal data is performance of its public task. The 成人快手’s role is to act in the public interest and to serve all audiences with content which informs, educates, and entertains, and to reflect the United Kingdom and its cultures and values to the world. Sharing your personal data

The 成人快手 works with our approved third-party providers who help us to provide some of our services. These partners only use your personal data on behalf of the 成人快手 and not independently of the 成人快手.

Winners, shortlisted entrants, regional winners as well as all commended writers' names with their country or region of residence will be published on our website and shared with the British Council. They will publish the names on their website and may contact you to offer creative support.

We may share personal data with a third party where required or permitted by law.

Retaining your personal data

The 成人快手 will retain your personal data until the competition has ended and the prizes fulfilled after which it will be deleted.

If you have opted-in to receiving emails from the 成人快手, your name and email address will be retained until you unsubscribe or inform us that you no longer want to receive emails about future 成人快手 Audio Drama Competitions.

If your contribution is used for broadcast, your personal data will be retained and archived in perpetuity by the 成人快手.

Your personal data will be stored in the UK, the European Economic Area (EEA), and the US. When your data is processed outside the UK and the EEA, the 成人快手 will ensure that it is protected to the same standards as if it were being processed within the UK and EEA.

Your rights and more information

You have rights under data protection law:
• You can request a copy of the personal data the 成人快手 stores about you.
• You have the right to request that we rectify any inaccurate or incomplete personal data that we hold about you.
• You have the right to ask for the personal data we collect about you to be deleted, however there are limitations and exceptions to this right which may entitle the 成人快手 to refuse your request.
