6 things you may have missed at 6 Music Festival 2020
6 Music Festival has been a blast, with huge performances from some of music's best. But in the midst of all the excitement, you may have missed these brilliant moments from the weekend.
1. We got to recreate our own iconic artwork
Seeing as we were in Camden, arguably the birthplace of punk, we had to immerse ourselves in the rich musical history of the area. One of the 6 Music Festival venues, Dingwalls, was just around the corner from the very Camden Stables stairway where The Clash shot the famous cover for their 1976 self-titled debut.
Over the course of the weekend, fans got to recreate their very own iconic artwork - with even 6 Music's own Mark Radcliffe getting in on the action (he chose a bit of a Mick Jones solo record for his shot...)
2. Everyone's new favourite duo emerged
Shaun Keaveny and Jodie Whittaker... really, just try and name a more iconic duo. The pair teamed up on 6 Music hosting duties on Saturday afternoon, forming a brilliant on-air pairing as they co-interviewed guests, shared their fond memories of Camden and made fun of each other's accents in the process. Could we see a cameo from Shaun in the next series of Doctor Who? We can only hope so!
There was also this meeting of two sci-fi legends...
3. We couldn't help fanboying
Being a 6 Music DJ means you get to meet a fair few of your heroes, but that doesn't mean you still don't get starstruck. On Saturday, Radiohead's Ed O'Brien made his solo live debut as EOB and Chris Hawkins was on hand to introduce Ed onto the stage.
As you can see from his photo and tweet afterwards, it was a proper pinch-yourself moment.
It wasn't just the 6 Music DJs rubbing shoulders with their musical heroes though, it was the artists themselves too. Take this tweet from South London rapper Gaika, who was on the same bill as The Streets' Mike Skinner at Dingwalls on Friday night.
It's true: Mike Skinner really did write Blinded By The Lights. He dropped it during his 6 Music Festival DJ set too, along with a load more gems.
4. 6 Music Festival was big in da bungalow
With all the 6 Music Festival events selling out, many will have been enjoying proceedings from the comfort of their homes, either listening live on 成人快手 Sounds or watching the live stream on iPlayer.
Two people doing exactly that were Dick and Dom (yes, of 'Dick and Dom in da Bungalow' fame). Glad you were enjoying the action, guys!
5. There were some interesting instrument choices
Were they out of plectrums or just simply pushing the boundaries of music? Either way, we were very much here for the guitarist utilising the screwdriver during Kim Gordon's 6 Music Festival set.
6. Finally, this poignant moment from Kojey Radical
During his Roundhouse set on Saturday, Kojey Radical paid tribute to a late friend of his before opening up about mental health and emerging from anxiety and depression. In doing so he provided one of the most touching moments of the weekend as a whole.
