About Tectonics Glasgow 2022

Tectonics Glasgow, the 成人快手 Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s festival of new and experimental music, celebrates ten years of ground-breaking music this April. Conceived by the orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor, Ilan Volkov, and co-curated by Alasdair Campbell, the festival has blurred the lines between musical genres since 2013 and continues to question what music can be. Highlights are broadcast on 成人快手 Radio 3 each year.

This year’s line-up includes the Colombian musician , the ‘king of sampling’ , and pianists and. The 成人快手 SSO will give world premieres of compositions by Somei Satoh, , , , and which were inspired by topics as varied as pagan rituals, Julia Kristeva, quantum physics, and an antique wax cylinder recording of 成人快手 Sweet 成人快手. There’s also the UK premiere of works by and the late Dutch composer Margriet Hoenderdos.

European avant-garde legends and Jérôme Noetinger rub shoulders with Scottish and UK-based artists such as and , cellist , , and . And the Japanese-Korean artist takes up residence in the City Halls Recital Room for an installation created uniquely for that space.

Ilan Volkov, said: “Tectonics isn’t big on nostalgia. We like to look forward rather than back, but it’s fair to say that in 2013 we didn’t think we’d still be here. That’s down to our audiences’ enthusiasm and loyalty, the outstanding artists we’ve been able to champion, and the ongoing support and commitment from the 成人快手. We’re certain this year’s festival will channel all the excitement and optimism of the very first one.”

Since 2013 the festival has premiered 51 new works for orchestra, many of them 成人快手 commissions. In 2015 it gave the World Premiere of Cassandra Miller’s Duet for Cello and Orchestra, voted one of the best classical works of the 21st century by The Guardian.

In its first year, it welcomed the late Alvin Lucier, who performed a number of his own works, and Hildur Guðnadóttir, now an Oscar-winner for her film scores (Joker, TÁR). It has championed composers such as Éliane Radigue and Janet Beat with focuses on their work, and hosted leading European compositional giants (Georg Friedrich Haas), alt-rock royalty (Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore), US avant-garde trailblazers (Christian Wolff), and even a black-metal performer (Attila Csihar).

The majority of performances will be recorded for broadcast on 成人快手 Radio 3 with some performances available to watch online (full details to be confirmed).

Booking opens on Thursday 2 February 2023, at 10am.
