This man landed his dream job as a rollercoaster designer and it’s his mission to make YOU scream

27 March 2018

Fraser Ross is obsessed with rollercoasters. However, this passion, which has seen him spending each holiday and even his honeymoon on the hunt for new thrills, has come at a cost.

“I don’t get scared,” Fraser admitted on . “I’m looking for the next thing to frighten me.

“I’ve been on the tallest rollercoaster in the world and it was alright. I don’t get butterflies anymore.”

It doesn't stop him from trying to scare others. Several years ago, Fraser gave up his job as a maths teacher and dedicated his life to designing rollercoasters. The design for his first ride, Velociraptor, has now been reproduced in a number of countries.

The next big thrill

With so many theme parks offering rides, what’s left to excite Fraser’s fellow rollercoaster fanatics?

“I don’t think we’re going to push the height of the tallest rollercoaster much more,” he concedes. “But I think we can increase the speed.”

For Fraser, rides that are too predictable are off-putting. He wants to offer something unique.

“For me, the best rides in the world are the ones that encompass different elements that thrill over and over and that you want to ride again and again. I think that is exciting and I think that’s the future of rollercoasters; parks having exclusive rides that aren’t anywhere else in the world.”

And on those rides, Fraser has his mind firmly made up on the issue of whether passengers should scream, or not.

“Definitely scream. You need to let out the energy. Screaming makes it more fun!”
