Young Fathers: From T to the Mercury

Stepping out of the shadows and landing an incredible , Edinburgh trio Young Fathers have been a favourite of ours for quite some time - discover the special moments that have led up to them landing the prestigious gong.

Young Fathers first appeared on our radar in January 2009 when a certain Huw Stephens began championing the group.

Later that year we invited them to perform on our inaugural 成人快手 Introducing stage at T In The Park.

...they turned some heads...

We also showcased the trio at Sonar Festival, where they shared the line-up with La Roux and Bass Clef.

Stepping out of Scotland - Alloysious, Kayus and 'G' headed to Wales to play a special show for Bethan Elfyn's 成人快手 Intorducing show.

In 2010 they returned to T to close our stage on the Saturday night.

Vic Galloway and the team at 成人快手 Introducing in Scotland have supported them since the start. Last year they brought Young Fathers' dark hip hop to the Edinburgh Fringe, the performance was incredible.

Dark hip hop from the home team, live at Potterrow, Edinburgh.

At the end of 2013, Jen and Ally included the trio in their review of the best music of the year.

Five years on from taking to our stage in Kinross-Shire, the Mercury win is some achievement for them, considered as outsiders for the prize behind the likes of Damon Albarn and Bombay Bicycle Club - we're delighted to see them getting the opportunity to showcase their music to so many more people.

Their journey continues in Berlin, with a new record and a whole load of new fans, waiting to hear what happens next...
