5 must-see acts for Saturday at Glastonbury

It's Day 2 of Glastonbury! Following huge performances from the likes of Stormzy and Tame Impala on Friday, there's still so much more to come.

Here are five essential acts you shouldn't miss today - from indie classics courtesy of The Killers to a truly iconic performer in the form of Janet Jackson.

1. The Killers

The Killers have a long history with Worthy Farm, making their debut at the festival in 2004, moving up to the Pyramid Stage the following year and headlining for the first time in 2007. They returned 10 years later to play a secret set on the John Peel Stage in 2017.

But despite having been there and done it, Brandon Flowers and co have a bit of unfinished business, wishing to put things right after suffering technical difficulties during their 2007 headline set. "I think we can do better," the singer recently . "We’ve played about 700 shows since then so we’re a better band with more songs now."

Despite being Nevada born and bred, the cultural phenomenon of Glastonbury still means a lot to the band too. Brandon says: "We appreciate the tradition and what it means to headline Glastonbury. It’s huge... While growing up in Vegas... I remember cutting out an aerial picture of Glastonbury and putting it on my wall."

2. Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson has achieved so much in her career. She's topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic, sold over 100 million records worldwide and was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Visiting Pilton for Glastonbury, however, will be a first in the singer's esteemed career.

We'll be witnessing a performer who has had a sizeable impact on modern music, as Radio 1 Clara Amfo recently : "Janet has and continues to be a template for so many artists: Christine, Ciara, fellow Glastonbury performer Janelle Monáe, MNEK, Beyoncé, the list goes on."

3. Slowthai

Slowthai's critically-acclaimed debut album Nothing Great About Britain, released in May, is a vivid portrayal of the UK today, which is entirely how its creator intended it. When he was announced as No.4 in the 成人快手's Sound of 2019, the Northampton rapper said: "I led a life before music and I've got so many stories to tell... I always want to talk about real life not about material possessions. I've got to tell the story of the people for the people and not for celebrity or fame."

Expect Slowthai to bring that same kind of raw energy to his Glastonbury set, which he'll be experiencing for the first time as both a performer and punter. "I’ve never been [to] Glastonbury," he recently , describing it as a "dream" come true. "I’d love to go and just watch people. So then to go play, I can’t really believe it." This is definitely one not to miss!

4. Lewis Capaldi

While he's been the "male Adele" or a "Scottish Sam Smith", Lewis Capaldi's actually a different breed of popstar altogether. His self-deprecating humour and hilarious social media feeds make him seem very much one of us, instead of a far-removed untouchable star. In fact, he doesn't see himself as much of a popstar at all. "I don't think I have the poise or grace or air about me for that," he says. "I'm a singer - I've definitely done that a lot!"

"People just like to know where their stuff is coming from in 2019, whether that's food or meat or vegetables - people want to know it's not genetically modified and they want to know that music is coming from someone that talks about going to bathroom as much I do."

He's told fans not to miss his Glastonbury set "if you want to see me bottle it and end my career," but you know he's just being coy. His Other Stage performance looks guaranteed to cement his place as the nation's new favourite balladeer.

5. Lizzo

Lizzo's latest album, Cuz I Love You, is a collection of body positive, self-empowered tunes all set to hip-shaking funk, so much so that its title could very well be the singer speaking to herself.

"My job as an artist isn’t merely to sing. My role is to deliver something that helps people," she . "People can think I’m a superhero but it’s just bravery. It takes guts to boldly love yourself in this world." The Detroit artist's Glastonbury set will look to inspire fans to accept themselves too, promising some for all.
