Forget the notorious deep-fried Mars bar: Scottish food is a lot better – and healthier – than you’ve been led to believe

The high-fat, high-sugar Scottish diet has long been the butt of jokes, with the notorious deep fried Mars bar seen at the symbol of all that is wrong with Scottish food.
But lazy stereotypes hide one important fact: Scotland’s home-grown food is world class.
“There is a real misconception about Scotland,” claimed food writer Sumayya Usmani on The Great Food Guys.
“But this country has the most incredible natural larder.”

Sumayya has become passionately defensive about Scotland’s incredible produce.
It’s a view also held by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin.
“We have the best shellfish in the world, we have the best meat, we have game. We have everything that we want in Scotland.”
