Five Tips To Help You Exercise If You Have A Disability

Do your research and believe in yourself!

  • Disclosure
Let someone from the gym know about your health. How much you tell is down to you, but better to give detail if you are at higher risk.
  • Take a tour
If you have a visual impairment like Sannah, it can take longer to be familiarise yourself with the facilities or where the changing rooms are.
  • Get organised
Arriving early is sensible in case there are any changes to the timetable or new instructors to whom you should introduce yourself.
  • Don’t be a hero
Work out responsibly and not competitively. If you’re not used to working out, you need to ease yourself into it.
  • Believe in yourself
Many organisations and charities acknowledge the importance of people with disabilities taking part in sports for both their mental and physical health.
