成人快手 SSO Family Sessions at HMP Low Moss with Lucy Drever

Lucy Drever introduces the 成人快手 SSO's family sessions at HMP Low Moss

The 成人快手 Scottish Symphony Orchestra shares its passion for music in a wide range of settings including families with young children; pupils attending Primary, Secondary and Additional Support Needs schools; and local communities around Scotland.

In this video, Associate Artist Lucy Drever introduces the orchestra’s recent family sessions at HMP Low Moss near Glasgow, where music and storytelling are used to create meaningful memories between people living in prison and their children and families.

“Unique moments that are created with the help of music allow for a bond to be created between dads, grandads and the family unit. We know the power of the arts. It’s a brilliant way to connect with people around you, to change your narrative, to see yourself differently, to be playful, and to experience being in the moment with those you love most.” Lucy Drever

Lucy Drever and the 成人快手 SSO have developed these family sessions alongside the Scottish Prison Service staff at HMP Low Moss, and in consultation with arts practitioner Jess Thorpe (founder and trustee, Justice and Arts Scotland, and Lecturer, Arts in Justice at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland).

Karen Norrie, Governor of HMP Low Moss, said: “We fully understand the impact imprisonment has on the families of those in our care and the importance maintaining positive relationships can have on individuals in custody and their loved ones. We are particularly keen that children are able to enjoy natural and memorable moments with a parent in custody, that so many other young people are able to take for granted. This partnership with 成人快手 Scottish Symphony Orchestra has delivered that in a way which is new and innovative and we are grateful to Lucy and the team for all their hard work and look forward to continuing our partnership.”

At HMP Low Moss, Early Years Scotland support the delivery of the 成人快手 SSO’s family sessions. Laura Barrett, Centre Co-ordinator, said: “The sessions with 成人快手 Scottish Symphony Orchestra allowed children to enjoy an event together with their family. The children and families connected and bonded through music and it was truly special to see.”
