³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scotland’s Landward visited chicken rearer Lee-Anne Bryson, who explained how the Scots Dumpy provided unlikely heroics in helping the Celts and Picts fend off the threat of the Roman army.

‘I'm a little chicken – short and stout’

The short, stout Scots Dumpy are also known as bakies, creepies, and crawlies.

A (different kind of) hunter’s chicken

The Celts and Picts would bring Dumpies along on hunts, as the chicken would warn against any incoming dangers. Legend says that the Dumpy once even alerted the Celts and Picts to the presence of a Roman raiding party.

Lee-Anne said that Dumpies are part of the Scottish national heritage and that it is important to ensure the breed is kept going for future generations, given that they are currently on .
