New Year, New You? Cat Hepburn’s new poem tells it like it is
1 January 2019
Despite all the stories circulating throughout 2018 about health and well-being, will we all still end up starting 2019 with a hangover?
Cat Hepburn is an award-winning script writer, spoken word artist and educator based in Glasgow.
Her portrait of a young woman contemplating a new lifestyle for 2019 may ring a few bells with some of us.
From the pressure to eat clean, recycle, volunteer and slow cook, it’s no wonder we find it hard to stick to our New Year resolutions.
“My passions are working with marginalised voices, exploring feminist issues and using contemporary storytelling to empower, provoke and make people laugh.”
Are these New Year resolutions familiar?
New Year, New Me | Poem By Cat Hepburn
Cat's feeling rough and she's reminiscing about the missed opportunities of the past year.
New Year, New Me (extract)
It’s January the first and I’m feeling burst
Rough
As a badger’s arse
I know – tough – I drank too much last night
But I don't need self-scrutiny
I need sympathy, love
I need Netflix and mint choc chip ice cream.
