³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One's new cookery series – The Good Cook – is to be the UK's first-ever cookery programme to use "Quick Response" codes. Audiences with QR-enabled phones will be able to use this interactive technology to link directly to the recipes and ingredients featured in the programme via the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Food mobile website.
Available while watching the series live on TV, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ iPlayer and from the website the audience can get the full details for each recipe and a list of ingredients by simply scanning the QR codes on the screen onto their mobile smart phone.
The series is presented by best-selling food writer and experienced chef Simon Hopkinson, who will be taking cooking at home to a tantalising new level in the six-part series starting in July 2011. Drawing on his 30-year career in professional kitchens, Simon will be sharing his top tips and advice for creating restaurant quality food, at home, with everyday ingredients.
Danny Cohen, Controller, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One, says: "I want ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One to lead the way with interactivity and technological innovation so that we can keep engaging audiences in new ways. I hope viewers will find this experiment with QR codes to be a simple but useful tool to help them re-create the recipes they see on screen."
Alison Kirkham, Commissioning Editor of Formats and Features for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One, adds: "Pairing this technological innovation with Simon Hopkinson's cooking really gives this series a sense of purpose. I hope, by making the ingredients instantly accessible, the Quick Response codes will help encourage our audience to cook Simon's delicious food for themselves at home."
The Good Cook is broadcast in July on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One. The series was commissioned by Alison Kirkham, Commissioning Editor, Factual Formats and Features for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two. The executive producers are Pete Lawrence and Simon Knight for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Vision Productions, Bristol.
Only mobile smart phones with cameras are compatible with the service. Phone camera-integrated QR code reading apps are also available for download.
