Radio Devon announces new line-up

³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Devon announced today a new line-up for its daytime and weekly programmes.

Michael Chequer will join Matt Woodley as co-presenter on Radio Devon's news breakfast show, Good Morning Devon, the only local radio programme covering the whole county.

Matt and Michael will continue to offer listeners a complete news round-up of what's happening in Devon, across the UK and in the rest of the world.

Matt will host the new format programme from the studio while Michael will be out around the county reporting live on the big stories and issues that matter to Devon.

Gordon Sparks will continue to present Good Morning Plymouth, especially for listeners in the city, on 95.7 FM.

Judi Spiers' mid-morning show will be followed by local legend David Fitzgerald.

Fitz is a big name in Devon, and will be familiar to TV viewers and radio listeners alike. Fitz will be on between noon and 3.00pm, with listeners from across Devon invited to phone-in for a chat.

Fitz said: "There's no doubt 2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Devon and for the county.

"No matter what you are doing, if it affects the people of Devon, I want to hear about it."

A new late afternoon show with David Sheppard and Jo Loosemore fills the airwaves between 3.00 and 7.00pm with conversation, music and up-to-the-minute news and travel.

David and Jo said: "It's our mission to get the whole county listening and taking part in our new programme.

"We'll have all the essential information you need for your drive home and we'll be reflecting the things you've been talking about during the day."

There are two brand new news programmes, Devon At One and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Devon's Nightly News, which will be presented by Alison Johns, one of the West Country's best-known news presenters.

At the weekend there will be an extended retro music show with Richard Green and, for the first time, a dedicated folk show presented by Jim Causley.

Jim is a singer-songwriter from Whimple in East Devon who specialises in the traditional music of the West Country with his band Mawkin:Causley. Jim has been nominated for a ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 2 Horizon Award and, with Mawkin:Causley, has played more than 50 festivals in the last four years.

Also joining the Radio Devon weekend line-up is Peter Greig.

Peter is a familiar voice to people in Devon having presented on Plymouth Sound since 1975.

Mark Grinnell, Managing Editor of Radio Devon, said: "Our new line-up will keep the station values of quality and distinctiveness combined with a freshness and love of Devon.

"We are proud of our position as the county's must-listen-to source of news and information and are always looking for ways to serve our listeners better and reflect what they tell us they want from their local ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ station.

"Our breakfast show has the biggest audience of the day and I'm delighted to be able to further bolster the journalism of the programme with the great talent of Michael Chequer joining Matt Woodley.

"I'm sure listeners will love talking to Fitz every day and being eased into the evening with news, music and chat from David and Jo.

"I'm also really excited that, for the first time ever, Devon will have a dedicated folk show. It will feature live music, special guests and news round-ups."

Listen to ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Devon on 103.4 FM.
