Great North Run live on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One, Radio 5 Live and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Online

Sue Barker

The 29th running of the Great North Run – the world's most famous half-marathon and Britain's biggest mass-participation event – will be broadcast exclusively live on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One (9.30am-1.30pm), ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 5 Live (9.30am-12.00noon) and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Sport Online on Sunday 20 September.

Sue Barker presents live coverage of the race, as nearly 50,000 runners attempt to complete the 13.1 mile course, starting in Newcastle and finishing at the coast in South Shields, crossing the Tyne Bridge.

Steve Cram, Brendan Foster and Paul Dickenson provide commentary on the race, while Jonathan Edwards, Katharine Merry, Phil Jones and Rob Walker report from around the course.

Leading the way will be the elite runners, battling it out to put their name on a roll of honour which includes the likes of Paul Tergat and Martin Lel – who will be aiming to regain his title in this year's race.

Ethiopian Berhane Adere won the race in 2006 and will be looking to reclaim the women's crown. Ethiopian athletes have a good record in the race and won both the men's and women's events last year, with Tsegay Kebede and and Gete Wami triumphing.

Celebrity runners include Gordon Ramsey, Joanna Page, Kara Tointon, Joe Swash, Richard Dunwoody, Cheryl Baker, Blue Peter's Helen Skelton, Ben Fogle, James Cracknell and Premiership side Hull City's manager, Phil Brown.

Radio 5 Live will broadcast live coverage of the race from 9.30am to noon, presented by Rachel Burden and George Riley before they run in the race themselves, where they will be joined by another member of the 5 Live team, Donal MacIntyre.

Christian O'Connell will take over broadcasting duties at the finish of the race, where race-goers can listen to his 5 Live programme on the public address system. Mike Costello provides expert commentary, with former athlete Allison Curbishley summarising. The on-course reporter will be local girl Lynsey Hipgrave.

Viewers can see highlights of the race on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two from 10.50 to 11.30pm. They will also be available on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ iPlayer.
