Peter Salmon, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Director North, and Richard Deverell, Chief Operating Officer, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ North, met the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Philharmonic, with the orchestra's Chief Conductor Gianandrea Noseda, during studio rehearsals in the week Peter Salmon starts his role as ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Director North on a full-time basis.
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ North will see the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ working in new ways and building partnerships with a wide range of outside organisations.
The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Philharmonic is already involved in a number of community initiatives, as part of its sponsorship by Salford City Council.
Peter Salmon met members of the orchestra, including first violinist Fran Pye and principal timpanist Paul Turner, who have been taking music out into the community.
Fran and Paul have been involved in many of the orchestra's recent projects including schools visits, composition workshops and recording programmes for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 3 with local students.
As well as giving the people of Salford an orchestra to call their own, the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Philharmonic's relationship with the council is providing new opportunities for young musicians to develop their skills and career aspirations.
More than 70 music lovers from Salford have recently signed up to join the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Philharmonic's Salford Family Orchestra, when they will perform alongside the professionals on stage at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of this year's ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Proms.
For the second year the Philharmonic will be performing in Buile Hill Park, Salford (on 12 September) as one of the Proms In The Park that coincides with the Last Night Of The Proms.
Peter Salmon said: "The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Philharmonic with their work in schools and local communities are showing how new partnerships can be created.
"One of the most exciting things about the move to ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ North will be the opportunities to build more partnerships to do innovative things, that better serve our current audiences and enable us to reach new ones."
Richard Wigley, General Manager of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Philharmonic in Manchester, said: "Our links with Salford City Council have already led to a number of imaginative partnerships which have been effective in reaching new audiences and building important links, ahead of the move to our new home at MediaCity."
The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Philharmonic will round off their current Bridgewater Hall season on Saturday 13 June at 7.00pm when they perform Haydn's thrilling choral masterpiece The Creation with soprano Kate Royal.
