³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scotland's Burns website makes a big impression

Robert Burns poetry readings by HRH The Prince of Wales, Robert Carlyle, Brian Cox and Alan Cumming have made a big impression with online users.

Figures just released show that their contributions to ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scotland's Robert Burns archive online project - along with a host of others - resulted in more than half a million page impressions.

The site was launched in January as part of the multiplatform ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scotland celebration in honour of the country's bard on the 250th anniversary of his birth - and more of his works will be added over the next two years.

The website bbc.co.uk/robertburns received 511,400 page impressions during January.

Some of Scotland's finest screen, theatre and television actors were heard reciting verses in The Complete Burns, a three-year audio archive project to record all of the 600 works of Burns.

Donalda MacKinnon, Head of Programmes and Services, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scotland, said: "This is a tremendous endorsement of the success of ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scotland's online service and this unique website bbc.co.uk/robertburns is both a fitting tribute to the Bard and a fantastic legacy for future generations."

HRH The Prince of Wales recorded two of his favourite Burns works for this audio archive project – My Luve Is Like A Red Red Rose and My Heart's In The Highlands.

Robert Carlyle, Brian Cox, Alan Cumming, John Gordon Sinclair and Siobhan Redmond are among the actors who have already recorded works for this ambitious project.

The archive launched on Sunday 25 January 2009, the anniversary of Burns's birth, with a half-hour taster programme on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Scotland, and the recordings can be accessed at bbc.co.uk/robertburns.
