A poll for 成人快手 Two's Newsnight and 成人快手 Radio 5 Live suggests nearly three-quarters of the public (72%) believe the Labour Government is doing a poor job in its handling of immigration, while nearly two-thirds of respondents (62%) think that Britain would lose its unique identity if immigration continues at its present rate.
听
The poll was conducted ahead of a special immigration debate taking place tonight (Thursday 8 November, 10.00-11.15pm) on both Newsnight and Radio 5 Live, featuring politicians from across the spectrum and interaction from the public.
听
Guests will include Sir Andrew Green of Migrationwatch, Raduta Matache, the acting Romanian Ambassador to the UK, and Dhananjayan Sriskandarajah from the Institute of Public Policy Research.
听
The panel will discuss the poll findings in a broadcasting first in which Newsnight and Radio 5 Live will simulcast a live discussion programme, co-presented by Richard Bacon and Gavin Esler.
听
In the Newsnight studio, there will be politicians from the three main parties, alongside a panel of experts. Meanwhile, from his Radio 5 Live studio, Richard Bacon will handle the audience contacts fielding emails, texts and calls. The two will link via camera and audio.

The results of a joint poll conducted by Newsnight and Radio 5 Live highlights concern about the way the Government is handling the issue of immigration in the UK. The survey questioned respondents about the impact of immigration on the economy, employment, public order and British identity.
听
In relation to immigration and employment, 52% of those surveyed believed that immigration posed a threat to UK jobs. However, 46% felt that without immigrants coming to the UK the economy would ultimately suffer.
听
The poll suggested that David Cameron and the Conservative party inspired marginally the greater confidence in the British public to do the "best job" at handling the issue of immigration with 29% of the vote, compared to Gordon Brown and the Labour party on 26%.
听
The simulcast will enable both regular Newsnight and Radio 5 Live audiences to engage and participate in a new arena, and to provide Newsnight with on-air interactivity that is routine for Radio 5 Live.
