³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scotland statement in response to Alex Salmond speech
|
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scotland issued the following statement in response to a speech by the First Minister Scotland, Alex Salmond, about broadcasting policy for Scotland:
Ìý
"We welcome any debate on broadcasting as we believe ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scotland has a
very strong story to tell and already contributes significantly to the
Scottish economy.
Ìý
"We are about to open our new £188m state-of-the-art headquarters at
Pacific Quay in Glasgow – the most sophisticated digital production
centre in Europe – and it will benefit not just ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scotland but the
entire broadcasting industry. Our Network TV commissions are set to
increase with £50m investment forecast for the coming year and further
growth planned for 2008/2009, while our overall investment for Scottish
output remains strong.
Ìý
"Like the First Minister we believe in having strong links with theatre
companies and we work with them on an ongoing basis. A new radio drama
studio within Pacific Quay will enable us to start broadcasting new drama
for our listeners every month from next year. We also work hard to
develop new comedy writing and a number of new programmes will be aired
over the next few weeks as a result of that collaboration.
Ìý
"We look forward to the opening of Pacific Quay next month. The decision
to make this major investment is a sign of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's confidence in the
strength and ability of the creative community in Scotland."
