Friday Night With
Jonathan Ross - Friday 10 June, 10.35pm, 成人快手 ONE (repeated 12 June, 成人快手 THREE)
听
Musician, writer and uniquely-opinionated political
activist
Bob Geldof KBE joins Jonathan
Ross this Friday on 成人快手 ONE to talk about Live 8.
听
Twenty years after he galvanised a generation into global
awareness of a famine-ridden Africa, he's calling on the governments
of the western world to take action for the world's poorest people at
next month's G8 summit.
听
"'I didn't want to do 'Bob's Best Bits',"
he says, "[but] once you arrange these concerts, the press goes
mad and starts drilling down in to the issues, and that drives the debate
forwards.
听
"This gives the Prime Minister a tool to play with.
If we influence the debate, coming home without doing anything will
be more difficult for these leaders.
听
"We couldn't change politics
20 years ago. It was a different world. Now it's not charity, it's
about political justice. This has to be this great national moment.
This country gets to change the world and tilt it in favour of the poor.
听
"Why do we have to do this? These eight guys should
do this thing. If they don't, it will be a miserable defeat for them,
and come election day they'll know exactly how miserable they should
feel."
听
Geldof also talks about his forthcoming 成人快手 series Geldof
in Africa. "It's not a promo clip for Africa. It's
an attempt to explore it the way they see it themselves. More than anywhere
else, I love being there."
听
Jonathan also welcomes to the show Charlotte
Church, who talks about the pressures of growing up in the
public eye.
听
"I soldier on through. I've got a really good job
so I'm not complaining. I'd like to hit them (paparazzi) sometimes,
but I usually verbally abuse them instead.
听
"When I was young, people thought I was a rich
little toffee-nosed cow... I used to give it some back.
听
"I've made some ridiculously bad mistakes; I moved
out of home, which was a mistake because I starved for a while - just
me and Pot Noodles.
听
"Usually, I'm happy in my jim-jams with a Chinese
and a DVD at home. People know me for getting drunk [but] I only go
out once a week with my friends."
听
Completing this week's line-up is Desperate Housewives'
Teri Hatcher; and there's music from Charlotte Church
with an exclusive performance of her new single, Crazy Chick, live in
the studio.
