To celebrate the 80th birthday of Her Majesty The Queen in 2006, artist Rolf Harris is to paint, in oil, a portrait of the Queen for a 成人快手 ONE Rolf On Art special.

Rolf Harris said: "I am thrilled to bits, hoping that I do a painting that is representational of the way the Queen looks and her obvious charm and friendly quality, rather than the very formal.

"I want to get the real person rather than the State image and I'd like to make my painting more impressionistic than photographic.

"My hero painting of the Queen was one done by William Dargie in 1954 and I just hope I can do one as charming and representative of the lady as that.

"I am overwhelmed and hope I don't get stage fright and panic!"

The programme will delve into the world of royal portraiture, focusing on one of the most painted women of modern times.

More than 120 official portraits have been painted of the Queen throughout her life, each with its own unique style and interpretation.

Artists who have painted the Queen range from Dame Laura Knight to Lucien Freud.

As Rolf tackles his own portrait of her, he will explore the whole history of royal portraiture, looking at paintings of monarchs through time and the artists who painted them.

成人快手 ONE Controller Peter Fincham said: "This will be a unique television event. It's a huge coup for the 成人快手 to be able to show Rolf painting such a great supporter of the arts, the Queen.

"We're delighted that permission has been granted - it's a painting everyone will want to see."

Notes to Editors

Rolf On Art has attracted more than four million viewers to each programme since the first series launched in 2001, with up to seven million viewers watching the first two series (there have now been four series).

In a survey conducted after the second series, half of Rolf On Art viewers claimed that they did not usually watch programmes about art and 40% of viewers agreed that watching the series made them more likely to try other art programmes in the future.
