The 成人快手's China Week - a week of themed news reports and programmes
exploring one of the world's most dynamic countries - will run globally
from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 March on 成人快手 World Service radio and 成人快手
World television.
听
More than 60 journalists and programme makers will visit seven cities
and many rural locations to gather material and highlight some of the
major economic and social changes involving China in recent times.
听
On 成人快手 World Service, flagship programmes including The
World Today and Newshour
will be broadcast from Beijing and Shanghai, with the 成人快手's correspondents
in China joining presenters Robin Lustig and Carrie
Gracie to cover issues such as:
听
Economic developments, with special features on Shanghai entrepreneurs;
the car industry and pollution; education; migrant workers; the media;
and political and religious freedom
听
Discussions with China's 'new faces', including: Jimmy Ye, the racing
tycoon; Zhang Xin, the property developer; Chen Luyu, known as China's
Oprah Winfrey; Ai Weiwei, the artist and designer of the Beijing Olympic
stadium.
听
A round-table discussion on China's place in the world, presented
from China, with an international panel in London, Washington and elsewhere.
听
Interviews with celebrities including: Tang Jun, the former President
of Microsoft China; Colonel Yang Liwei, the country's first astronaut;
Jet Li, the martial arts hero.
听
China's World is a five-part documentary running through the week,
which looks at the profound influence that China has on the world's
economy.
听
Argentina, Sierra Leone, Romania, France, India and Kazakhstan are
among the countries that 成人快手 correspondents have visited to observe
the influence that China's economic power has on regional economies
and the lives of ordinary people.
听
Global Business investigates why
Chinese business is important not only domestically but for the rest
of the world.
听
Peter Day hosts a round table discussion in Beijing
featuring: Wang Huiyao, a returnee economist with the Chamber of Commerce;
Li Yong, Assistant Dean of the Sino-US Management School; Nick Young,
Editor of the China Development Brief.
听
With China's impact on the world as a central theme, 成人快手 World Service's
Chinese service will examine the experiences of the Chinese diaspora,
both for the impact they've had and for their views on Chinese development
in the 21st century.
听
There will be link-ups with four Chinese radio stations in Taiwan,
Singapore, Australia and the United States, each of which will broadcast
a separate joint phone-in show.
听
On 成人快手 World, highlights include a special edition of the flagship
political programme Question Time
from Shanghai, presented by David Dimbleby.
听
An international audience will quiz a panel comprising: Liu Jianchao,
the Chinese government spokesman; Long Yongtu, the Chief Negotiator
for the Chinese Ministry on Foreign Trade; author Jung Chang; David
Tang, the fashion designer; Chris Patten, the former Hong Kong Governor
and European Union Commissioner.

David Dimbleby says: "It's a breakthrough. To have a programme
from China with known critics of the Chinese government on the panel
is something I never thought would happen.
听
"Mounting such a democratic programme in a country that hasn't
practised democracy is a big challenge and should be riveting to watch."

Beijing Boot Camp follows children
in China as they experience a period of dramatic change, the symbolic
moment when they grow from childhood to adulthood.
听
Teenagers spend 12 hours at school every day, starting at 6.00am and
finishing with a daily exam.
听
The documentary examines how they cope with their parents' expectations
of success and the restrictions enforced by the government.
听
The Chinese community in Kolkata is the subject of The
Legend Of The Fat Mama, which offers a nostalgic journey in
search of a woman who once made outstanding noodles in the eastern Indian
city.
听
The programme hears a number of interlinked stories including the thriving
street food industry and the disappearance of family-run eateries, and
discovers why there is still hurt at the treatment received by the Chinese
in the aftermath of the Indo-China war, which caused many people to
migrate to Canada and other countries.
听
成人快手 World and 成人快手 World Service will both transmit a special edition
of the award-winning interactive discussion programme Talking
Point, recorded at Beijing's prestigious Tsinghua University.
听
Robin Lustig will put questions from the 成人快手's global
audience to a distinguished panel of leading Chinese politicians and
academics, and will seek the views of young Chinese students about the
role of their country in the world and its emerging influence on the
global stage.
听

as offering in-depth analysis of many of the issues outlined above,
will allow internet users in China and around the world to watch the
special edition of Question Time from Shanghai.
