'Earth
Story is no mere TV tie-in; its erudition is the equal of the best
popular science' Amazon
Two
centuries ago, by examining the rocks beneath the Earth's surface,
scientists started to investigate the history of our planet and
began formulating the astonishing concept of geological time. Using
this discovery as their starting point, the authors of Earth Story,
Simon Lamb and David Sington, unravel the fascinating history of
the Earth, from its earliest beginnings to the dawn of human civilisation.
First
published to accompany the highly acclaimed 成人快手 series of the same
name, this enthralling book is released in paperback on 6 March.
Earth Story invites readers to follow the journey our planet has
taken over the last four billion years. From a time when no dry
land existed, to the forming of the Ice Age and the birth of the
Himalayas, the authors trace the planet's evolution through to the
end of the 20th century.
Drawing
on the views of contemporary scientists who have effectively changed
the way we think about the world, Lamb and Sington examine the complex
relationship between human beings and our ever-changing planet,
and present a new understanding of our place within Earth's creation.
Complete with full-colour illustrations and stunning photography,
they present a truly compelling Earth Story.
Simon
Lamb completed his PhD thesis from Cambridge University in 1984.
He has since done fieldwork all over the world, including southern
Africa, the high Andes and New Zealand, where he has studied the
nature of the Earth's mobile crust and the way it affects the landscape.
Since 1989 he has been at Oxford University, first as a Royal Society
Research Fellow, then as a lecturer in Earth sciences and Fellow
of St Anne's College.
David
Sington is an award-winning television producer specialising in
science documentaries. He was the series producer for the 成人快手 television
series Earth Story and the co-author of Paradise Dreamed: How Utopian
Thinkers Have Changed the Modern World.
