Musicals
and me are like chalk and cheese, chalk doesn't offend cheese they,
just don't talk much.
Fame
So
most of the time I leave musicals to get on with life without me.
Just recently I experienced a great one in the guise of Debbie Does
Dallas and felt inspired enough to see another.
Roll
on Fame, the classic musical - fun for all the family, its youthful,
energetic and fast-paced. Or to put it another way it's cheesy,
ridiculous and super-corny.
Let's
throw the story out with the dirty water shouts the producer. It
relies on pace and energy over drama and feeling - fair enough but
how do those elements hold up? For the most part what they do works
well. The music occasionally over-powered the vocals. The accents
were occasionally reedy and fake but for the most part it was sexy,
exciting and impressive.
Personally
I'd rather have swallowed a pint of high-energy drink and dived
head first into a vat of honey than experience something quite so
saccharin again but as anyone whose read any of my musical reviews
in the past will know they're generally not my cup of sickly sweet
tea. It's a stance and I'm sticking to it!
