This
was the best Romeo and Juliet I've ever seen and I've seen it done
a million times.
James
Corbet Burcher (who will shortly appear in a radio play I've been
working on) was magnificent. The set designed by Anna-Marie Hainsworth
(who was sat in front of me) was clear and crisp and Amy Jackson's
Juliet (who was a close friend of the delightful young lady sat
next to me) was captivating and exquisitely subtle.
Cynics
might say that I was the victim of artful press manipulation but
I am a man with scruples and I will let nothing pinch my artistic
integrity!
Jack
Farthing who played the role of Mercutio was excellent, funny and
dramatic in equal measure and I have no connection with him what-so-ever.
His Aunt isn't even my godmother, no seriously she's not.
What
was great about the play was the simplicity of the set and direction.
It allowed the actors to convey the story with clarity - a must
when you're doing Shakespeare. The was pure quality of the delivery
from the whole cast was excellent.
The
only complaint I'd have is that for a play with so much killing
there wasn't much blood. Everyone was dying left right and centre
and I just kept thinking about the Organ Donor scene from Monty
Pythons Meaning of Life.
On
reflection it's actually not something that should concern the cast,
it's more an issue I should try and shake out of my system.
