A slight
but constant chill emitting from the stage is certainly one of the
things that set this production of Cinderella apart from the others.
Not to mention the fact that a glass ice-skate replaced the classic
version of Cinderella's glass slipper!
The
cast of Russian Ice Stars is made up of internationally acclaimed
skaters including an Olympic Gold medal gymnast and skaters from
the Russian State Circus!
The
producer Vee Deplidge and choreographer Cavaliere Guiseppe Arena
has successfully married skaters from diverse backgrounds in various
combinations of dance, singles and pair skating to stage a truly
magical reproduction of Cinderella.
An
evening of awe and wonder ensues as graceful and agile skaters glide
around the stage effortlessly and even perform impressive acrobatics
to a pre-recorded classical musical score.
Cinderella's
Fairy Godmother, the elegant Ioulia Barsukova, finds time to display
her Rhythmic gymnastic skills with Ball, Hoop and Ribbon which won
her an Olympic Gold medal. Not to be outshone, Cinderella Olga Pershankova
shows off excellent dance skating skills, either solo or with her
Prince Charming, Valdis Mintals.
The
court jesters Alexander Belokopitov and Ekaterina Belokopitova were
equally inspiring in their demonstration of extraordinary breath-taking
air gymnastics. The main cast is also strongly backed by a colourful
and equally remarkable troupe of skaters.
The
evening is fast flowing with the tavern transformed into a garden
and subsequently a palace and then back in a matter of seconds.
The well-coordinated storyline promises to transport the audience
through time and space. Prince Charming's travel around the world
in search of his beloved also provides the perfect excuse to sample
Spanish Flamenco and Egyptian Dance on ice.
The
well loved fairytale of Cinderella, retold on ice, well deserves
a visit.
