Blood
Brothers
The Oxford Apollo

Louisa Hannan
So鈥
have you heard the story of the Johnstone twins? Well, if not, get
yourself down to the Apollo Theatre!
A
truly fantastic performance awaits you, and a show which will appeal
to every age group.
Set
in Liverpool, the musical journey tells the story of twins separated
at birth, who grow up in different social classes.
With
the lead character, Mrs Johnstone, giving away one of her sons to
the richer Mrs Lyons, the show is based around the superstition
that 鈥渋f either twin learns that he was once one of a pair, they
shall both immediately die鈥濃 you can guess the outcome.
Sounds
heavy, but believe me, when you鈥檙e treated to a hilarious first
act, watching grown men and women playing eight-year-olds growing
up in working-class Liverpool, you soon grasp the story.
Mrs
Johnstone, played wonderfully by Denise Nolan, along with Christoper
Warburton and Daniel Fine as Mickey and Eddie the twins, head an
incredibly strong cast.
Special
mention should also go to Keith Burns who gives a spine-tingling
performance as the narrator, representing the conscience of both
Mrs Johnstone and Mrs Lyons.
It鈥檚
unsurprising that Blood Brothers is still going strong after 12
years in London's West End and countless national and international
tours.
Don鈥檛
expect falling chandeliers and flying cars, just an emotional rollercoaster
from beginning to end complete with some fabulous music.
You
really do get swept along with the emotion felt by the cast throughout
the entire show. Oh yes, and don鈥檛 forget tissues for the end!
