Magical history tour!

Reel back the years and travel back to a time when the cultural changes were massive but the cars and skirts were mini! Step into York Castle Museum's time machine and take a ride to the 60s...

York Castle Museum hope The Sixties Experience will change your perspective on one of the most explosive decades in recent times.

Social history, art, fashion, textiles and decorative art will be included along with sound, moving images and interactive displays.

Artefacts from the museum's own collection will be on display and include a Lambretta scooter, a Dansette record player and clothes and fashion accessories by designers such as Mary Quant.

Mary Kershaw is the Director of Collections: "The 1960s is an era that has left a lasting impression on the society we live in today. Even those too young to remember the decade know something about it, or live in a world that has been shaped by the 60s - from the space race to the music, the change of attitudes towards young people, and fashion."

As well as looking at the big themes and extraordinary events of the 60s, the exhibition will examine the everyday experiences of people in the city and the country and see just how much their lives were affected by this remarkable decade.

Household exhibits include household packaging, clothes, electrical items, toys, records and much more.

You can already hear the cries of 'oh look - I remember those!' which will no doubt echo round the museum.
