Louise's carbon challengeYou are in: North Yorkshire > We love NY > Diaries > Louise's carbon challenge > Carbon challenge: 5 Carbon challenge: 5It's the start of a new year and Louise and her family are still trying to reduce their carbon footprint. There have been ups and downs and some things are proving easy to change, whilst others are a challenge! Find out how she's doing... Happy New Year to everybody鈥 already 14 days into January and I am still putting off the 鈥榬esolutions鈥. Sustaining an ever improving Carbon Footprint is proving to be every bit as difficult as I thought it would be when I signed up for this last spring. I keep finding really good reasons why everyone else should be doing the hard work! Louise IF the council gave us better bins I would recycle more鈥 IF supermarkets didn鈥檛 provide plastic bags I would HAVE to remember my own bags鈥 IF public transport was cheaper I wouldn鈥檛 use the car as much鈥 IF the council cleaned the cycle path quicker after a flood I would cycle more (outrageous, I could just use the road!)听 and so it goes on 鈥 it鈥檚 always somebody else鈥檚 fault that I don鈥檛 do what I should. So what is really hard? The dishwasher issue is still a problem 鈥 I have not relented 鈥 we are still washing up by hand, being much more efficient with hot water. The family is still are not convinced that this is a great family 鈥榮ocial activity鈥櫶齱hich rather spoils things when they spend the whole time moaning that if we had a dishwasher things would be so much better. Another difficulty is the car! I am determined to sell a car but my family keep finding finding a reason why we shouldn鈥檛. They now say 鈥渨e will sell it in a couple weeks鈥, but they say that every couple of weeks! I have also got out of the habit of using my bike during the winter 鈥 totally my fault. I must get back into the habit. I am still not composting 鈥 maybe when the summer comes? I am ALWAYS forgetting my shopping bags and ending up with loads more plastic bags! What is proving quite easy?听I think the electricity saving is much better. Once we got the low energy lamps in that has just looked after itself.听 I am using trains much more听 - especially as there have been quite a few really good 鈥榙eals鈥 recently.听 I am going to Paris at Easter (doing the Paris Marathon) 鈥 the new Eurostar link is brilliant. Recycling is generally going well. What new ideas do I have? The best one came from an article I read on the 成人快手 North Yorkshire website about compacting. One family vowed not to buy anything new for a year (apart from food and essential cleaning and household items). I thought this was brilliant.听All three children are now away and it seems like a good time to commit to something like this.
We do have far too much 鈥榮tuff鈥 and I know that we could make do for quite a while without buying anything new.听 I haven鈥檛 decided how long for. I鈥檓 not sure that I am brave enough to do a year, maybe听 two months would be a good start! My husband likes the idea 鈥 of course 鈥 it saves money! I have already registered with a local Freecycle group and I think I will set myself a date 鈥 in fact I will do this now. Here goes 鈥 two months from today (14th January until 14th March), I will let you know how it goes! The 成人快手 is not responsible for the content of external websites Oh dear what have I done now?
