What a week it has been.Ìý By now you’ll have guessed that my life never seems to be straight forward.Ìý At least it can never be described as boring!Ìý Far from it.Ìý After weeks of trying to sort out ‘my date’ from my new best friend it actually happened.Ìý It has been a long time since I’ve been on a proper date.Ìý The only way I could cope with this was to pretend that it was a business dinner.Ìý Does that sound bad? You know what I mean.Ìý If you block something out of your mind it is sometimes far easier to deal with.Ìý I was so nervous.Ìý What was I going to wear?Ìý I couldn’t even have a few drinks to hide behind – I was driving and I had quite a drive to the venue.Ìý | "My face looked like I’d had a bad attack of acne with bumps everywhere...this wasn’t supposed to happen on a first date!" | |
After hours of trauma, I settled on the outfit.Ìý Not too revealing, but comfortable and flattering.Ìý Now for the make up.Ìý Well, there was a disaster here as I’d taken a bad reaction to a face treatment I’d had the day before.Ìý My face looked like I’d had a bad attack of acne with bumps everywhere.Ìý I raced to the chemists for some antihistamine and magic cream to try and calm it down.Ìý This wasn’t supposed to happen on a first date.Ìý I had plenty of foundation to cover up the marks – I developed a very deep tan and just used my fringe to cover it up.Ìý What a nightmare!Ìý I raced out the door later than I should have done and hit the road.Ìý A woman on a mission.Ìý Can you remember what that first date feeling is like? It wasn’t just a date – it was a blind date.Ìý I didn’t know anything about Steve.Ìý I arrived at the restaurant.Ìý Remember this was a business date – that was the only way to cope.Ìý First impressions – well he wasn’t bad looking, had a nice smile and seemed OK.Ìý It was a nice place to eat so I decided to make the most of it.Ìý What was the worst that could happen?Ìý I never told any of my friends but there was one person who knew where I was – so don’t worry I was safe.Ìý Safety is so important.Ìý The evening passed really quickly although I did get a bad case of verbal diarrhoea – I do that when I’m nervous.Ìý Did I make any big mistakes?Ìý I don’t think so but if either of us did it has to be allowed on a first date.ÌýÌý My new best friend had made a good choice.Ìý Steve and I got on well; we had lots in common which surprised me.ÌýÌý It’s funny isn’t it how you analyse how an evening went.Ìý Did I use the cutlery properly?Ìý Did he notice my unfortunate allergic reaction?Ìý How much did I talk too much?Ìý I think he was as nervous as me.Ìý It doesn’t matter how old or young you are – nerves gets the better of all of us on that first date.Ìý Will I see him again?Ìý At the very least I owe him dinner – so watch this space! |
