Yankee Doodle Dandy Hi
by John McMenamin
听
The nation is in mourning
The flags are at half mast
'Cause Michael with his merry laugh
Is leaving auld Belfast
听
He brightened up our mornings
As we sat at our tay
But the man who drove the wee white van
Is going far away.
听
He's going to America
To live amoung the Yanks
But Michael, now before you go
We'd just like to say thanks.
听
Thanks for all the stories
Thanks for all the fun
Thanks for all the laughter
Good luck to you auld son.
听
If you find yourself in New York
There's a district there called Queens
You might meet the Village People
And have fun on trampolines.
听
I can see you in a diner
Ah, it nearly makes me cry
As you call out to the waitress
"Hi, can I have an ulster fry.
听
Gerry and Sean are oh so sad
Now, Michael it's no lie
Gerrycried more tears than Sean
Who only has one eye.
听
And if you get a driving job
And I just think you might
Remember now you're not at home
You must drive on the right.
听
But Michael, now the cops are tough
And might give you a whack
If they should hear you calling out
"Hi, this is wild good crack."
听
Michael don't get hooked on drugs
Don't touch the auld cocaine
Or you'll end up in Sing-Sing-Hi
And won't see home again.
听
And Michael, if you do get mugged
Please don't get in a panic
Just say, "Hi, I come from Belfast
My Daddy built the auld Titantic.
听
Now, Michael watch the auld drag queens
With busts just like Monroe
But Michael, they're just like me and you
You know - ah - down below.
听
But Michael dear, be of good cheer
And don't be feeling low
Remember all the friends you made
On the Gerry Anderson show.
听
And now it's time to say goodbye
I feel I'm going to cry
So, Michael, for the last time
I'd just like to say - Hi!
