Tell Me A Story Granda
by John McMenamin
听
Tell me a story Gran鈥檇a
Before I go to bed
The old man, sat down on a seat
And scratched his grizzled head.
听
He鈥檇 told the story, many times
The wee lad, loved the tale
鈥淥nce upon a time鈥 he said
His voice was weak and frail.
听
鈥淥nce upon a time鈥 said he
鈥淲hen I was young and gay
I went one night to Windsor Park
To see Norn Iron play鈥.
听
鈥淲hat happened then鈥? the wee boy said
Cause he knew the story well
鈥淣ow, lie down son鈥, his Gran鈥檇a said
鈥淎nd the story I will tell鈥.
听
鈥淭imes were hard鈥 his Gran鈥檇a said
And I was on the dole
But one night son in Windsor Park
Norn Iron, scored a goal.
听
鈥淪cored a goal?鈥 the wee boy said
鈥淒id they put it in the net?鈥
鈥淭hey scored a goal鈥 his Gran鈥檇a said
Now sleep tight my wee pet.
听
The wee lad couldn鈥檛 sleep that night
He lay listening to the rain
And wondered, would he ever see
Norn Iron score again.
听
He knew his Gran鈥檇a loved him
He was the apple of his eye
But did his Gran鈥檇a tell a fairy tale
Was the story, all a lie?
听
At last, he closed his little eyes
And slumbered in the dark
And saw, Norn Iron, score a goal
In his dreams, in Windsor Park.
