SENSORY GARDEN

A two-year dispute over the sound children make while they are playing has reached an uneasy conclusion. The sensory garden is a section of the Playtrail, a facility for children with special needs and the general public, at the Racecourse Road in Derry. It was closed following complaints about the noise in December 2007. Then reopened after a sound barrier costing 拢7,000 pounds was erected. But in February 2009 it was closed again when more complaints were received. It has now been reopened although the Sensory Garden's management have still not been able to resolve the issues with their neighbours.

NOISE POLLUTION

The story started with back in December 2007, with an email from one listener, Geraldine: 鈥淚 just heard last night that the sensory garden at the Playtrail has been closed due to noise pollution! Apparently somebody, made a complaint to environmental health. The sensory garden is one of the most beautiful parts of the park with all the lovely sounds听 and the smell from all the herbs." Mark Patterson's show investigated.
