Dawn chorus: Take part in Norfolk events

Set your alarm clock and take part in one of the guided dawn chorus events in Norfolk, organised as part of ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Breathing Places to celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day.

International Dawn Chorus Day is the worldwide celebration of a daily miracle of nature. By tuning into the dawn chorus you can experience one of the true wonders of wildlife.

Dawn chorus events

In Norfolk, you're invited to join in with the dawn chorus experience by taking part in one of the organised events in the county which includes an official ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Breathing Places city event at Strumpshaw Fen on the outskirts of Norwich.

On Sunday, 4 May, 2008 starting at 4.30am, experience the magic of the dawn chorus and learn some of the distinctive songs and calls as you walk through woodlands and reedbeds with an expert guide.

³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Norfolk will be bringing the Dawn Chorus to the radio. Maggie Secker will be broadcasting live from the RSPB reserve - talking to local wildlife experts and examining the noises that form the county's early morning sounds. The Dawn Chorus special will be broadcast on FM, AM, DAB, Online from 4am on Sunday 4 May.

This event is free as part of dawn chorus weekend with ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Breathing Places. Guests are recommended to dress warmly and be aware that it may be wet underfoot. You may like to bring a thermos of hot drink. Booking is essential: 01603 715191.

Enjoy the dawn chorus at Sculthorpe Moor Community Nature Reserve, Fakenham. The event starts at 4.15am and costs £8, which includes bacon butties and hot drinks. Call Leanne Thomas on 01328 856788 for more details. The event is not suitable for children.

Take part in the International Dawn Chorus Day with the RSPB at Titchwell Marsh Nature Reserve from 5am. Cost £6, £5 (RSPB members), a breakfast option is available and can be booked on the day. For more details contact the Titchwell Marsh Visitor Centre on 01485 210779.
