Brodie gained quick success at his first ever metal detecting event

Just five minutes into his first metal detecting event, Brodie's detector started to beep.

An inch underground and just metres from his family car in Cheltenham, the 10-year-old discovered a rare, 700-year-old seal which would have been used in the 14th Century, probably with wax to sign or stamp important documents.

An expert said his discovery was of excellent quality - but Brodie's already set his sights on bigger and better relics, from Roman swords to a horse and carriage!

He's now plotting his next discoveries: "I always dream of finding something really big, like a horse and carriage or something, like gold jewellery or Roman swords and hats."

It was probably related to a church, with the lamb of God pictured on the front. It also includes a banner naming a "Roger of Tetbury".

Brodie's dad was among the 80 members of Gloucestershire Metal Detecting Club out searching that day.

"We didn't know what to expect or even if we would find anything," he remarked.

Since the seal was not classed as treasure, Brodie was able to take it home with him.
