A CD claimed to be a rare recording of songs recorded by Ed Sheeran when he was just 13-years-old has sold for 拢50,000!

The star - who is now 29 years old - said he made "probably 20 copies" of the album, which is called Spinning Man.

He previously said he didn't want anyone to "get hold of a copy" and owns 19 of them himself.

However, according to the auctioneers, the copy was found in a drawer where it had been for years.

Omega Auctions who sold it say: "We expected it to sell, but that certainly exceeded our expectations."

"It was a fierce battle between four our five very serious bidders and we were blown away by the final price."

They previously predicted it would sell for 拢10,000.

But there is still uncertainty around whether the CD sold at auction was one of Ed's original CDs.

The other copies of the CD come with a sticker saying 'Ed Sheeran Spinning Man' but this one doesn't have one, as the seller says Ed had run out - but according to Ed's representatives, that is a problem.

Before the auction they told Newsround: "All of Ed's early demo's for 'Spinning Man' featured a sticker. Any supposed copies without one are officially counterfeit."

In his book, Ed Sheeran: A Visual Journey, the singer revealed that he wrote the collection of songs after his first love broke his heart.

"In 2004, I made my very first album, Spinning Man, named after a picture that my dad had," he said.

"I burnt the CDs myself and made the covers. There were 14 songs, and they were all songs that rhymed.

"One lyric went: 'I'm a typical average teen, if you know what I mean'.

Ed said: "There are probably 20 copies of Spinning Man in existence, and I have 19 of them. I don't want anyone else to get hold of a copy! Most of the songs were about a girl called Claire. She was my first love when I was 13."
