In pictures: World celebrates royal wedding

Celebrations are taking place around the world as crowds gathered in the streets of London for the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton. In Sydney, Australia, Linzi Aland and Nick Volker, dressed as bride and groom, perform a pretend bouquet toss during a royal wedding party at the Ancient Britain hotel.

Young royal enthusiasts join the celebrations in Munich, southern Germany.

Royal watchers in Paris - some dressed for the occasion - packed this British pub to watch the big event.

This bar in central Moscow also hosted a party of royal well-wishers.

Images beamed around the world from Buckingham Palace were followed closely in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

Residents of the Transylvanian village of Viscri, Romania, took a special interest in the royal wedding - the Prince of Wales owns property there and it is one of the places tipped as a possible honeymoon location for the happy couple.

In Dubai, Britons show off their masks of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Charles, during a public screening of the wedding.

In Afghanistan, British soldiers take some time out to watch live coverage of the event.

The event is also dominating the news in Canada. In Ontario, Mary Massel, Terry Chapman and Sally Massel gather to watch the event on a big screen at the Palace Theatre.

Meanwhile, a group of British women in Turkey - keen not to miss out - watch the coverage at a pub in the Didim district of Aydin.

At a farm in the Jordan Valley, a lamb roast featured in celebrations hosted by Hanna Hashweh, second right, a Jordanian friend of the Duchess of Cambridge's family.

While the rain held off in London, some revellers had other weather conditions to contend with. Near the North Pole, members of the Catlin Arctic Survey team held what they said was the most northerly street party.

In the Spanish capital Madrid, British Ambassador Giles Paxman and his wife Segolene led celebrations at the British embassy.

Meanwhile, well-wishers in New York dressed up for a "viewing party" in Times Square. Live images of the wedding were carried on a giant screen.

Tributes to the happy couple came in all shapes and sizes. In Brazil, two Bengal tigers presented to Rio de Janeiro Zoo have been named Prince William and Princess Kate.

In India, the Delhi Ladies Network toasted the happy couple in a function at the Westin Hotel. Sally Slym is pictured raising a glass.
