Snowdonia National Park is to lobby officials over which name to use on new signs to a mountain peak.

The park authority planning committee agreed to rather than Cader Idris as it is also called and known locally.

But it hopes to hold talks with Natural Resources Wales (NRW) regarding whether Cader or Cadair Idris should be used.

NRW told ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Wales it had taken advice and used the Cadair spelling of the name as it was more widely known.

The committee was told historic records and maps showed the name Cader Idris.

Councillors were told that the former Countryside Commission for Wales had used the name Cadair Idris after consultation with the Welsh Language Commissioner which meant Cadair Idris was used on official documents.

The signs are to be used near a car park at Minffordd, near Talyllyn, used by walkers on the mountain.
