Photographs have captured queues of bank holiday traffic of a different kind.

Hundreds of walkers eager to reach the top of Wales' highest peak were snapped snaking around the summit of Snowdon.

The sunshine brought out hikers to the 3,560 ft (1,085m) mountain over a weekend described as "manic" .

Snowdon mountain warden Helen Pye said: "It was the busiest weekend of the year, so we were prepared.

"The mountain rescue teams had people on standby and they obviously dealt with it very well as they always do. We had more staff on than we normally do. So, yes, it was busy, it was manic."

More than 10 million people visit the Snowdonia National Park every year, while 350,000 make it to Snowdon's peak. It is climbed by more people than any other British mountain.
