Plans for a traveller site have been rejected by Wrexham councillors in a vote.

Officers recommended the two pitches at Ponciau, near Offa's Dyke, be given the green light despite objections from the community council, residents and Clwyd South MP Susan Elan Jones.

Concerns included the environment, access and road safety.

In a , officers said there was a shortage of traveller pitches within the area, based on current needs.

But the planning committee rejected the proposals during a meeting on Monday.

Ms Jones wrote: "Unlike many local authorities, Wrexham County Borough Council honours its statutory obligations for traveller site provision.

"The notion that random erection of traveller pitches is one that should be supported or encouraged would, of course be bizarre and an unacceptable precedent for the Council to set for itself."
