Llangollen attracts performers from about 50 countries each year to its eisteddfod

An annual world music festival which opens next week is facing a financial loss due to "disappointing" ticket sales, bosses said.

The 69th Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod starts on Monday in the Denbighshire tourist town with a concert by Burt Bacharach.

Competitors are expected from as far as Ghana, China, Hungary, India, Jamaica, Morocco, Nepal, Slovakia and Holland.

A 拢70,000 appeal has been set up to try to cover the shortfall.

Eisteddfod chairman Gethin Davies said a small surplus had been made in 2014.

"Sadly, although the economies set in motion in 2014 have continued in 2015, the disappointing sale of tickets for the concerts of this year's eisteddfod means that we are looking at a deficit of around 拢70,000 for 2015," he said.
