More talks on future of Flintshire's leisure services

  • Published

More talks are to be held on possible cutbacks within Flintshire's leisure services which could lead to 21 job losses.

A confidential report was put forward to the council's lifelong learning committee, and a meeting held in private on Thursday.

The council said it aimed to "control expenditure and focus services on participation in sport".

The matter will be discussed again by the executive board on 19 October.

It follows another council's proposals to outsource leisure services.

On Tuesday, Vale of Glamorgan council discussed a deal to run its four leisure centres with the help of private companies, in a move which it claims could save 拢1m.

Councillor Dennis Hutchinson, executive member for Flintshire's leisure services, said: "The lifelong learning overview and scrutiny committee will be considering a range of strategies to control expenditure and focus services on participation in sport."

Despite reports that school sports centres in Connah's Quay, Hope and Saltney could close to the public, the council said discussions would continue to try to operate them as "community-focused" centres.
